Exclusive interview with

George Galloway is an iconic figure in British politics, known for his straight talking. He gives an exclusive and sincere interview for Left Insider, with honest and direct answers to questions on issues ranging from Brexit to the Middle East.

“George, do you see Labour as your natural home? With the new NEC in place would you consider coming back to the Labour party. I understand that if you apply to your local CLP they can request your reinstatement through the NEC? Would you stand for Labour again?”

George

“I joined the Labour Party when I was 13 years old (having been born into a Labour household) and I was expelled after 36 years of membership. I loved the Labour Party more than the people who expelled me did. I loved its vocabulary its iconography its culture. I held most offices available in the party and was the youngest ever everything within it. The youngest ever CLP secretary (19) youngest ever member of the Constituency Section of the Scottish Executive (21) youngest ever Chairman of the Labour Party in Scotland (26) I was proud of the words labour MP after my name. Being expelled by Tony Blair over the Iraq War was a stab in the heart from me and I still feel the pain. I said that he would rue the day - and he did, twice at least. So yes, Labour is my natural home. But I will not apply to "rejoin" the Labour Party. My expulsion was unjust, contrary to rule, and now looks simply absurd. It should be rescinded and I thus reinstated. Lansman, who has a decisive bloc on the NEC even now has anathematised me as an "anti-Semite", a defamatory slur made no less outrageous by the fact that the leader Jeremy Corbyn is now routinely so described, even by Labour MPs! He declared that I would never be allowed re-entry into the party. The new General Secretary whom I respect should take the easier route of rescinding the expulsion itself, which even Lansman couldn't oppose (I think!). If not I may have to take a legal action to have the expulsion rescinded. I am confident that this would succeed.

Tony

“If there is an election called over the Tories EU failure what do you think Labour’s stance should be over Europe?”

George

“Labour is doing the right thing in standing back. Never interrupt your enemy when he is busy making a mistake. In an election caused by the failure of the Brexit negotiations Labour should state that it will negotiate better exit terms than the Tories and spell out what they would be. In no circumstances should Labour become the anti-Brexit party, they should be the better-Brexit Party.”

Tony

“Do you think that a two state solution is the right answer for Palestine and Israel and would it be possible now?”

George

“I supported the Oslo Agreement but I believe it is dead now. The demography of the Occupied Territories, the topography too, has changed irrevocably and killed Oslo. The best solution (in any case) is a bi-national state of Israel-Palestine.”

Tony

“George, you have had close insights into the situation in the Middle East over the years. Do you think that Relations in the region would be changed for the better if Iran had a nuclear weapon?”

George

“I was arrested outside the British nuclear weapons base at Faslane so I'm no supporter of the bomb. In any case Iran is theologically forbidden from developing nuclear weapons.”

Tony

“Do you see any way that the situation throughout the Middle East can be stabilised.”

George

“The Middle East will never be stable in our lifetimes. The imposition by colonialism of both the Balfour and Sykes-Picot conspiracies have rendered it inherently unstable. The corrupt kings and puppet presidents of the Arab world will not last forever but their systems and the ongoing agony of Palestine will not be easily replaced.”
